Applications are now closed for the FCABC 2024 scholarships
A brief description of each scholarship’s application criteria are listed below. Please refer to the specific scholarship form for detailed application requirements.
Chief Bob Paterson Memorial Scholarship
The Bob Paterson Memorial Scholarship has been established by the Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia in memory of Fire Chief Bob Paterson, 100 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department, who was killed on duty while responding to a motor vehicle accident in 1997.
The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who is a dependent child of an Active member of the Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia, who is pursuing their goal of higher education.
Applicants for the awards must intend to enroll at an accredited university or college to pursue any course of study which will lead to a recognized degree, or must plan to attend a recognized regional college or institute of technology in a degree program.
Preference may be given to those applicants that are planning to study in a fire service related discipline.
Chad Schapansky Memorial Scholarship
This memorial scholarship was established in 2004 in memory of Firefighter Chad Schapansky, Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department, who lost his life fighting a fire in his community of Clearwater, BC.
The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who is a volunteer firefighter in British Columbia who wishes to further their education at a Canadian Training Facility to pursue a career as a full time firefighter.
Nick Tresnich Memorial Scholarship
This memorial scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of Assistant Chief Nick Tresnich who spent over 30 years with the Lake Country Fire Department. The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who is a firefighter or fire officer in British Columbia who wish to further their emergency services education to pursue or further their career as a fire services member.
